A Turning Point10 March 2010, 10:49 pm
Today, six weeks after having a c-section, I went for my first run in a long time. An out and back, turning around at a road one short mile away and walking home. It was only a mile or so, at what seemed like a turtle's pace, but it felt almost therapeutic. Probably was.I have had a lot to think and wonder about these days. Lots of questions still flood my mind on almost a daily basis about Josiah's death - both physical questions about his condition and spiritual questions for God. The "whys" a...

An overdue project7 March 2010, 3:34 pm
Most times I have the best of intentions. Lots of decorative or craft ideas floating around in my currently jumbled brain, but not many that actually present themselves as a tangible object. I'd like to be "crafty" but can't seem to make it happen that often. This weekend's sunshine and warmer temps here in the Northeast must have turned the key in my head and set a few things straight. I've had an old window sitting in our barn since last summer, when Hubby replaced all 21 windows in our super o...

Danae-isms of a different sort23 February 2010, 6:51 pm
I’m an emotional wreck, and that’s okay.My 4-year-old daughter and I had a wonderful conversation, initiated by her, on our way to her gymnastics class tonight. And it brought me to tears. Her questions started with “How did Jesus take baby Josiah up?”She continued on with the following:“Why is Josiah in Heaven and not here?”“Why can’t we be with him?”“Will we die, too? When?""Will we see Josiah when we die?"“Does God have toys up there for Josiah? What do you think he’s p...

The Roller Coaster11 February 2010, 6:49 pm
I was warned that it would be like this."High" days of no tears and mostly happy thoughts (as shown in my previous post). And "low" days of deep sadness, missing the baby we should be raising, questions, anger...A roller coaster of emotions. And they change directions frequently. One minute I'm fine and playing with the kids, then the next minute I'm a complete wreck. My friend Kara, who had a similar experience almost four and a half years ago, told me it would be like this. She advised me to emb...

Jehovah has Healed8 February 2010, 2:39 pm
Josiah: Jehovah has Healed (meaning in the original Hebrew)Very, very fitting.Things are going well here...better than I had thought they would be. I've never had a c-section, so recovery is an entirely new discovery. The first day or two at home was rough...getting around, doing anything with the kids took effort. My mom blessed us for a few days with her time, care of the kids, and better than "Merry Maids" cleaning abilities. Slowly but surely, my body is healing and things get easier with ea...

Josiah David5 February 2010, 9:43 am

Right now we comprehend the facts and can convey those to you...and in the coming days an...

An Education From Stalks10 March 2010, 10:18 pm

The peach was once a bitter almond; cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education."So here's a lot of education for you, about four cups of the stalks. Waste not, want not, we say. What's Your Tradition?10 March 2010, 12:40 pm
This is something that has been on my mind for a while but reading Indo's and Sandeepa's latest posts, I decided it's time I did some musing too, though my post is not directly related to theirs. As bloggers, and those who write mostly about food, there's a lot we write about 'the tradition in my family'. We romanticise (me included) how our mothers and grandmothers made this or that, how a recipe is traditional, peculiar to our homes, or twisted (you know what I mean - with a twist in it), etce...

Mt Nacho24 February 2010, 1:55 pm
We scaled its heights - and grimaced. I didn't really know what I was letting us in for when I ordered this starter. (Yes, it was an 'appetizer', not the main dish.) I thought it was a typical menu illustration where the picture has been magnified a hundredfold. It was, but that didn't mean the original was a rational size. I have a little more respect for menu illustrations now. Needless to say, our meal ended here. (We had also ordered some corn and cheese poppers. They were only marbles, in c...

Couscous, And Some News17 February 2010, 1:43 am
The appearance of some live forms of protein was no deterrent. It had cost good money, and it had to be used, so this was what I made with the last of my last batch of couscous.
I now have another batch of two big packets. It made its way here last January, a year and a month ago. I finally managed to inaugurate it last week. Along with that batch of couscous came a batch of other Mediterranean delights, which included sumac, thyme mix, zatar and orange flower water. I've used some of them on ...

Got a Picky Eater?8 March 2010, 2:18 pm
The doctor said to feed the baby salsa. My eyes popped out, and my husband’s ears perked up. What?! Her reasoning was that babies adopt the tastes of their families. Since their tastes develop most in the first 18 months of life, she continued, that was the time to expose them to as many [...]...
